They’ve had a great year. So they picked one house to give away! You can watch them live (or see the videos at http://atlantahomegiveaway.org/

They closed on the house on Friday the 19th. The crew has been working around the clock to get it ready for 12/23 Noon when they turn it over to a family.

Everything here is paid for.. but you still can help with a donation for utilities. 100% goes to this family. Just click on the widget below.

Protect Your Web Future

Google Buzz
On the Internet, you will see a lot of claims and promises and wonder how people get away with this.

Actually, many don’t!

And unfortunately, I have seen some HONEST business go down because of a small error in the way they present themselves online.

You need to watch what you say, tell the truth, and have the proper legal disclaimers on your sites. Getting a lawyer to review your site and prepare the documents could cost a lot, but not having these protections could cost you much much more.. and maybe shut down your whole business.

A Low Cost Solution

Now my friend Mike Young has put the tools you need into a very low cost software solution

Do You Want the Life of An Author?

Google Buzz

Working with authors, and being an author and business owner for a few decades, I have long ago decided that this is the best lifestyle I can imagine.

Sure, I’d like more money, who wouldn’t? But when it comes down to the question of what really counts, I’m doing fine, certainly not starving or struggling, and have freedom to do what I want to do.

Well, most of the time…

Today, I had a conference call planned with a publishing company looking for wider distribution, more book sales and new titles turned into instant best sellers. They have some good books, and want to reach more readers and grow the company.

This is the kind of call that I really enjoy.

We got the five people invovled on the phone (yes, it’s a virtual company, another of my favorite things) and we got into it. Going great, beyond expectations. Killer call.

Trying to multitask, I flipped the switch on the washing machine and walked around my house while conducting the call. After a while, I decide that I’d check some notes on my laptop downstairs and that’s when I saw it.

The washing machine flood!

Thinking like an entrepreneur, I continued the call and figured that someone would have to clean up the mess later. We talked for about another 45 minutes and ended the call.

I went back downstairs and that’s when it hit me.

  1. The washer was still trying taking on water, and overflowing
  2. There was about an inch of water all through the house
  3. I was the only person in the house. I had to take action

Not a big deal. I quickly did the cost benefit analysis of what would happen if I left the house and let it dry out itself, called the maid to come clean up, or trick a family member into it being their fault.

I opted for switching my “exercise time” to the next hour, ran out and bought a mop and bucket (did I have one already? I don’t know) and grabbed a frozen yogurt at Costco (now there’s true multi tasking).

While I cleaned up what turned out to be clean, fresh water, I had a few minutes to contemplate how blessed I am

  • I have the freedom to handle any situation
  • I had multiple options I could choose from
  • I was able to do it on my time (and eat the yogurt)
  • The water was clean (so many don’t have potable water)
  • I needed the excercise.

I was just about to add that “I got a blog post out of it” while I finished the job. That’s when I slipped, fell and questioned the whole affair.

In the end, I survived the fall, did get the blog post, and hope it brings you a smile while you remember how great it is to have the life you do.

Now, I’m off to call the appliance guy. I’ve tried that DIY path.. and don’t need another lesson today.

Are You a Small Business in Start up Mode?

Google Buzz
As I travel the net talking about my new Twitter book, I meet many new people.

There is no doubt that you should be usin social media to form more meaningful connections. You can join them all, so you have to pick.

Here’s some criteria that will help

  1. How easy is it to join? If it just takes a minute, join as soon as you see it. At the very least, you have another URL, profile and photo up on the web

  2. Do they have a following? Major social media networks have 10 or 100’s of millions of users. Makes sense to have a profile on the largest
  3. Are they targeted to your niche? Some groups are better because they are small. You won’t get the wide reach, but you will have access to people just like you.

For instance, I like This Small Biz Startup network If you have a small business in start up mode, you will get a good sized group of people like you to network with

The Whitlock Heritage in Printing and Publishing

Google Buzz
http://images.marketworks.com/hi/61/61370/printer_184.jpg

Here’s some evidence that I didn’t just get started recently in publishing and book marketing.

The Whitlock Pony offered operators a 20-40% increase in productivity.

We Whitlock have always been into giving you better results.

The truth is, I have no idea how I might be related to the owners of the Whitlock Prinint-Press Manufacturing Company of Derby, Conn and even if I am, there is no direct connection of printers ink in the veins of my father, grandfather or anyone else in between the Pony guys and me.

On the other hand, I have been in sales, marketing, persuasion and influence for all of my life, did some print work and owned a computer printer business for 23 years.

You can spin things just about any way you want… but I hope I don’t get calls for Pony repair.

My Kidneys Are Safe: Visiting Tajah in South Carolina

Google Buzz
If you follow my Twitter stream you’ve seen lots of tweets about Tajah, my daughter who lost a kidney back in May.

So I was a bit worried coming to South Carolina today after attending the Internet Marketing Big Seminar in Atlanta over the last few days. I had to wonder whether they were stealing kidney here.

All looks good though. Tajah is back at work, healing well and getting better.

Here’s a photo to prove it.

The Idea of Pattern Recognition

Google Buzz
I found this in my inbox.

I’ve lost all traces of where I found it.. so there’s a mystery here.. why as this in the “draft folder?”

I’m pretty sure I didn’t write or edit it… but it’s very profound and I don’t want to loose it.

The idea of pattern recognition one of the peculiar new
awarenesses of our time is the result of speed up. When things move
very quickly, their pattern or form of them appears very plainly
whereas when things move very slowly, it is not so easy to see a
pattern.
This so has something to do with a lot of the confusions of our world
and when people who had previously been quite content in a fixed
position, in a job, or a career, are suddenly confronted with very
fast-moving situations where they can see overall patterns, they
suddenly become very discontented with their place, with their fixed
position. So the dropout is a normal kind of response to pattern
recognition… not that I mean in all aspects of our society, the
people who were dropping out right, left, and center are people who
suddenly have seen a pattern in their lives instead of just a fixed
position; visually oriented, everything in its place, a place for
everything, a classification, a job.

If you come across the origion, please post a comment so I can give proper attribution.

What's the deal with Windows 7 and BSOD (blue screen of death). I bought my first two Win 7 machines in early Feb and have had several different issues on completely different configurations.

Wasn't this supposed to be the Windows OS to fix Vista?
