So, we love that Dan Barber talk here at Foodtree. We're excited to be a part of a growing trend towards really useful ways to approach our broken food system. Jamie Oliver, Michael Pollen; two other voices advocating change in ways that aren't rooted in top level ideas or mandates...rather rooted in simple ways to think about a much bigger problem, and tools to tweak our own behavior every day to create 'network affects' in the current system that will result in a healthier relationship with food.

I guess to comment on our mission at Foodtree, we want to build a platform on which farmers and food producers of all kinds can tell their story, much like Dan told Miguel's. The food label isn't enough room to tell eaters who you are, and why you do things the way you do. Eaters don't have a reliable source of useful, relevant information on the food they see in their community. Technology has the promise to change this, and we're hoping to be a part of that.

Cheers!
Derek
@dshanahan
@foodtree

I also love TED but rarely go to their web site because I'm afraid I'll spend weeks there and not come up for air. I wait until someone (like you, like now) presents me with a nugget. I don't often agree with the TED folk, but I am usually not disappointed. Regarding this particular video, it give me much hope. My writing partner just watched the documentary Food Inc. and has been regaling me with tales of the sins of agribusiness until I was ready to despair, so thank you.

I do not see, yet, how to use the ideas in the video in my own creating, but I'm sure it will at least inform what I do.

Thanks. Oh, and I"m sending my writing partner a link to this post so he can see "the other side" also.

The TED talks have inspired many of best blog posts and remind me to think big to answer the world's problems
